Latest news…

Since I started working @ZipRealty back in Jul 2013 I’ve had little time to work on my personal projects and when I do I usually dedicate this time to either 3D Printing and 3D Modeling, my Drones or my new Swift coding projects. I must admit I’ve neglected my own site so while I start on the next iteration of it I will shutdown the Portfolio section since┬ámost of the projects there are naturally dated now.

I’ve been coding Web Apps mainly version 3 of the amazing Zap Platform CRM for the past few years and now that its build I’ve been pioneering our mobile app efforts, by the time I got home last thing I wanted to work on was on more JS, HTML and CSS (don’t get me wrong I love it and I dream with it everyday — which precisely proofs my point ? ).

The new site will be here really soon čśë

Inspiration from an app?

So it’s been about two and something years now, and I’ve finished my second Masters.

It’s been a great ride, but the final project was a complete challenge that turned out great! I decided to try something new and at a month and 2 weeks to my Final Presentation date I decided to learn and make my app on Ruby on Rails.

It was a great experience and a great product came out of it, there’s a lot of front-end work that brings this app to life but also some nice (or so I think) ROR code that handles the backend.
Another great experience was meeting┬áheroku┬áit was so easy to deploy my app (after the learning curve :p ) that I instantly felt in love with it, and since my Reseller account didn’t support Rails 3 it was my only fast and cheap option plus it complemented perfectly with my Git repo.

Well I can go on for days and write a really long post here, but I think there’s no need for it. Experience┬á┬áand let me know what you think of it @highvoltag3

Here’s some screenshots of the app if you don’t want to follow the link above.

Remove a section from WordPress Theme Customizer

So while doing some work today, while implementing the new WordPress Theme Customizer I came upon having to remove one of it’s defaults options more specifically the Title and Tagline panel.

And after some digging came across the correct code to do so in a comment at:

Though this code of course will only work if you put in on a function that will trigger it, so I decided to put a complete example unlike the comment where I found it for those of you that just know how to copy and paste into functions.php

function myown_customize_register($wp_customize)
  // I actually registered a bunch of settings and controls before running the line below, so if you want to register some controls you can put them here.

  //Finally lets remove the Title and Tagline from theme customizer since doesn't use it.
  $wp_customize->remove_section( 'title_tagline');
add_action( 'customize_register', 'myown_customize_register' );

Credits for the remove section comment goes to┬áKattagami – Gilles Vauvarin.

@font-face and Firefox

Since I moved to Chrome a while ago and left mozilla behind for getting bulky and slow, I’ve been developing in Chrome most of the time.

By chance I ended up opening my site in Mozilla today to notice strange things going on with the @font-face declarations in my CSS, because my site uses either a .com extension or a .info Mozilla thinks they are too different sites and wouldn’t let the fonts load from one to the other.

The solution is quite simple, if your already have a .htaccess file add the following rules:

<FilesMatch ".(ttf|otf)$">;
<IfModule mod_headers.c>;
Header set Access-Control-Allow-Origin "*"

Although the asterisk might be to permissive you can change the asterisk for a domain or in the case of more than one domain just duplicate the whole “Header set Access-Control-Allow-Origin “” ” line and change the domain.

Student Area going offline.

For all my student from my instructor times back in 2009, I have sad news. The Students area if going offline.
I know some of you still use some of my classes an tutorials and for those of you here’s a link to get to it, but it will no longer be available through the main menu.

There comes a time for all of us to move on, and as I move on with my career I need some more space in my menu bar ;).

Best luck to you all. I’ll leave the comments open just in case but you all have my email.
